Setup Is a Project. Management Is a Team.

Setup Is a Project. Management Is a Team.

Mixing a finite build with open-ended weekly work is how owners buy a launch, feel done, then watch the account drift until the next emergency invoice.

Literally: setup is the finite build with a finish date — tags live, campaign structure clean, destination URLs honest, conversion events tested. Management is the weekly work that does not finish — bids, negatives, creative, the listing, the phone path. Buy that second half as a stack of one-off jobs and you pay the restart every month.

Adidas made the same mistake at brand scale, then fixed it. Brand and e-commerce teams used to run as separate tracks — awareness in one lane, conversion in another — so only about 2% of consumers consistently heard both. For Ultraboost, they sequenced brand first, then e-commerce, against shared KPIs as one system. Think with Google reported a 75× rise in conversion effectiveness from that coordinated run (Think with Google: Adidas). A launch that ends is not that system. A bench that stays is.

Setup should be scoped like a project: tracking proven, structure clean, destination URLs honest, conversion events tested. If conversion tracking is wrong, the “management” that follows is just expensive guessing. Prove the events, then manage.

After launch, someone has to stay. Winter weekends change search mix overnight. A project vendor who disappears after go-live cannot catch a broken form on Friday afternoon. A bench can. Write that expectation into the scope so “management” is not a vague hope after the invoice clears.

Stop renting restarts as if they were a team

Gartner’s 2026 CMO Spend Survey still puts awareness and conversion at the center of media spend, with digital more than two-thirds of media. That budget needs a weekly owner — not a new brief every time the chart looks weird.

If you already know why adding a marketing team beats a stack of summer projects, apply the same split to ads: pay for setup once, then retain management. Paid ads without a weekly hand are a launch video, not a channel. The one-channel habit from one channel plan for Q4 applies here too — setup and management should share the same offer sheet.

Why JTech

We run setup as a clear project and management as an ongoing bench — same people, same account, no amnesia between invoices. If your winter flight was “done” at launch and the phone went quiet, reach out and we will separate the build from the weekly work before the next storm weekend.
