Casey Chase: A Standout Entrepreneur

Casey Chase, Founder of Score Chaser
“I wanted to pursue building a business in [sporting clays], really so that I didn’t have to get a real job, because I love being around the sport so much and the people.”
Starting out by doing service contracts while she was still in high school, helping clubs with logistics and scoring, she realized that there had to be a better way for clubs and shooters to manage tournaments than what was on the market.
“I felt like none of [the competitors] were doing enough to keep up with how our sport was growing, and I felt like I had the inside scoop on all of them.”
With no experience in web applications, Casey set out to find a partner who could help turn this revolutionary vision into reality. “I looked around a long time…before I found JTech. I didn’t feel like there was really a clear scope of the project [with other resources]…they just didn’t understand how every club handles things differently in putting on these tournaments.”
After exploring potential partners for what would become Score Chaser, Casey realized JTech Communications was the only team that truly understood both the platform’s intricacies and her vision for the future of sporting clays.
“…they were the first team who I felt really understood the nuances and how much work it would take, and also at the same time, challenged some of the ideas about how we had handled things previously to help us grow in the future."
Recognizing the Need: Websites for Sporting Clays Clubs
Through years of developing Score Chaser as JTech’s Chief Architect, along with deepening his relationship with the sporting clays community, Josh began to notice a common issue with many sporting clays and shooting clubs' websites. He states:“We really saw...that sporting clays clubs—their websites were like the software that was used previous to Score Chaser existing.”
Much like the systems that came before Score Chaser, many club websites are time consuming to navigate, causing an increase in labor instead of reducing it.

As soon as he heard him explain how the websites handle membership renewal, Cody, with experience in club memberships, told Josh, “You have my attention."
“The membership piece is what’s getting the most initial excitement,” Josh shared. In Josh‘s personal experience with his local shooting club, he had to jump through multiple hoops to renew his membership, which led him to choose not to renew his membership on select years.
With JTech’s proprietary customer management system, the renewal process is fully automated—no more tracking down ol’ Joe to pay his dues year after year, and your shooters don’t have to scramble around just to renew their membership.
Cody related, “Being in club management, there are just so many moving parts. The things like renewals and all of that stuff—gosh, if we can streamline that process—boy, that would be fantastic.”
And that’s exactly what JTech’s websites are built for. Instead of serving as a digital billboard like traditional sporting clays club websites, JTech’s websites for sporting clays and shooting clubs are purpose-built to streamline club operations and improve shooter experience.
If you’re interested on learning more about what one of these websites could do for your club, you can find more information here or hear it straight from Josh on the podcast.

Digital Scoring in Sporting Clays
Transitioning from websites to Score Chaser news, Casey introduces a revolutionary concept for sporting clays: digital scoring. Casey, who has worked with trappers and clubs in logistics across tournaments, understands the bottlenecks and time-consuming manual processes that are still relied upon in sporting clays. Casey explained how with digital scoring, “As the shooter shoots, that’s going to be recorded.” This shot by shot tool gives shooters access to more analytics and gives competitors and spectators more insight to what is happening on the live leaderboards, shot by shot instead of station by station.

Cody goes on to comment on how as a coach, it would be extremely useful to see his shooters’ shot by shot data and analytics, which is when Casey lets him in on something that is currently available in Score Chaser for sporting clays instructors.
Casey explained, “As an instructing business on Score Chaser, your students can just give you access, so you can just pull [your students’ analytics] up on your own Score Chaser account.”
To which Cody’s only natural response was “Dang! Mind Blown! You guys really have thought of everything!”
Other Score Chaser Features
Prompted by his new knowledge of his ability to see his student's analytics in Score Chaser, Cody had to know what else Score Chaser could do that he didn't know of. Casey gave him a few current and upcoming features:Tournament Explorer Map: This tool is great for planning out upcoming tournaments near you, or across the country for your road trip.
"Someone's going shopping, but you don't want to go shopping. You'd rather shoot" (Casey Chase). Well, just find a tournament on the map!
Calendar Subscribe Link (under "My Scores" page): You can sync your full tournament schedule to your personal calendar and share your full schedule, including stations and times, with other people and calendars.
"...it's what times you're shooting, what stations you start at, all of that information." She continues, talking about a remark she heard a shooter say about his wife wanting to call him, but not wanting to interrupt his shoot, "...well, share your shooting calendar with your wife."
To which Cody remarked, "Well that could be good and bad," sparking chuckles from Josh and Casey.
Hold a balance on Score Chaser: Budget for your shoots and reduce processing fees.
“I have a shooting budget for the year… that might be a tool to help people budget their shooting,” Cody related.
This upcoming feature will also make international shooters' experience much easier. They won't have to deal with exchange rates and foreign bank policies. Simply hold your balance from your winnings in Score Chaser to pay for future entry fees.

What does it look like for someone to utilize websites for sporting clays and shooting clubs?
Josh replied to Cody’s question, “We’ve learned a lot about the clubs… It’s fascinating, the different clubs that are out there that do business different ways and have different emphasis. You know, what’s important to them and what makes sense."So with each club having unique needs, what’s the answer? Well, it's simple: It’s completely custom, and completely tailored to each club based on what each club needs.
“We’re trying to build a business tool for [sporting clays and shooting clubs] that makes it really fast and easy to maintain… a lot faster than they’re used to.” - Joshua Reynolds
It’s amazing how different clubs operate and run their business from each other, and the unique needs and priorities of each club. JTech meets with each club to collectively figure out what it is that they need, and finds the appropriate solution. Clubs looking for more member engagement would benefit from Score Chaser integration and live club leaderboards. Clubs looking for help with membership renewals and management will benefit from our member management solutions.
